AkureyrarAkademían or the AkureyriAcademy is a research center and a society for academics, free-lance scholars, independent researchers and those with an academic degree, working in researching and/or on writing.
The academy was founded in the spring of 2006. The academic members organize workshops, meetings, congresses, lectures and happenings on various themes in a broad range of academic fields, although mainly in the humanities, also combining the academics with visual arts. Basicly, it is possible for all academics, who fulfill the above mentioned criterias, to rent a working space in the AkureyriAcademy and at the same time take part in the intellectual society. The working spaces can be rented for shorter or longer periods, also for one week or a couple of weeks, for guest reseachers.
The AkureyriAcademy is located in the former school for housewifes (Húsmæðraskólinn), Þórunnarstræti 99, IS-600 Akureyri, Iceland. To contact the board of directors, please write to stjorn@akureyrarakademian.is.
